Employment Clearances

Pennsylvania School Law requires that all applicants for employment in public and private schools, employees of independent contractors seeking business with public and private schools, and student teacher candidates undergo background checks if they will have direct contact with students. Clearances must be obtained for the purposes of employment therefore clearances obtained for other reasons and organizations may not be transferable. Clearances must be verifiable by the school district. EAAECS requires new employees, and volunteer, pre-service teachers/interns and contractors to submit clearances that are no older than one year (12 months) from the date of issue. Existing employees must renew clearances every sixty (60) months.

The following three background checks are required:

  • Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Certificate
  • Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check
  • Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI)

All prospective new hire candidates must submit satisfactory background checks as part of the application process. Clearances must be no older than 1 year from the date of issue.

All active school personnel must re-submit background checks every 60 months (5 years) in accordance with Pennsylvania law. This is a requirement of continuing employment.
